Flying Away exhibition by Elena Givone in Reggio Emilia
Friday, 05 March 2010
The pictures out of the “Flying away” project by Elena Givone go beyond the boundaries of the traditional reportage, combining an authentic documentary attitude with an active social commitment and practices peculiar to the contemporary artistic context.
The idea to portray the subjects on a carpet, involving them in a game where photography is both the creator and the protagonist, telling them a story to inspire a specific behavior, breaks with the usual mechanism that makes of people mere witnesses of a remote reality. That’s how Elena makes her presence clear and she imprints her work with a social-anthropological connotation and a touching psychological implication.
Thanks to the cooperation with Reggio Terzo Mondo, Franco Gilberti Foundation and FUNDAC organizations, Flying Away has arrived in Salvador de Bahia, among the minors housed by the Fazenda “A Partilha” (a new social-educational structure for trespassers minors, that allows them to live in a semi-freedom conditions) and housed by the CASE (juvenile prisons).
The images shot in Salvador de Bahia are going to be exhibited in Reggio Emilia from March 5th to April 5th 2010 in the former Church of Saints Agata and Carlo.
