The New Burlesque by Cesare Cicardini on Io Donna
Saturday, 13 February 2010

Such genre had its golden age in the Forties and Fifties thanks to Burlesque stars such as Tempest Storm, Dixie Evans and others who knew how to ironically undress.
The essential features for a Burlesque artist is her sensuality, her charisma, her liveliness and mostly her complicity with the audience. For Burlesque dancers, beauty is important but is not everything.

TB in Sudan by Riccardo Venturi on Internazionale
Tuesday, 09 February 2010
Riccardo Venturi has documented the TB in Sudan, one of the countries hardest affected by a humanitarian crisis in the whole world.
The ten-year conflict between North and South of the country seemed at the end in 2005, after the Sudanese Government drew up a peace treaty with Sudan People's Liberation Army (the main rebel group of South Sudan). Instead, the fear of an exclusive partition of the power by one of these two forces increases the violences in Darfur.
In this difficult context of conflicts and civil wars, health assistance is one of the emergencies of the country.
This reportage, shot in collaboration with the WHO, has been published by Internazionale.

Impersonators of Mao by Tommaso Bonaventura on Volkskrant
Friday, 05 February 2010
In China there are actors specialized in impersonating Mao Zedong. They take advantage of a physical resemblance that is sometimes extraordinary, yet they spend several years studying the movements, the language, the calligraphy and the poetries written by the Great Steersman, trying to absorb as much as possible from his personality. This identification process goes so in depth that often it isn’t clear where the actor’s personality ends and the character’s one begins.
The reportage by Tommaso Bonaventura, realized in collaboration with journalist Ivan Franceschini, has been published on Volkskrant.
